I know many of my friends were/are big fans of Jerry Seinfeld’s humor. I know you have not forgotten “yada yada” or the “soup nazi”. 🤣🤣🤣 Praying you are smiling to recall how entertainment once served to unite similar people and not divide them. We could have different viewpoints at the water cooler and remain friends who laughed together over silliness! Laughter is good medicine and the Bible confirms it. (Prov 17:22) If you love the LORD ALMIGHTY more than you love anything else, I believe there may be something helpful, edifying and encouraging for you in the paragraphs to follow.
For several weeks, I have been waking in the wee hours from vivid dreams. Each time, there are images of millstones, dried up streams, anchors and four letter words. Please, pretty please, NOT those four letter words. I did not know what I wrote down from those dreams contained actual words in ANY language. Learning they were all Hebrew words was a pleasant surprise and a huge blessing. For now, I will share SANE, EZER, AYIN and YADA. If you want to get to YADA, you have the choice to scroll down to the last one.
The first word in Hebrew is “hate”. In Malachi, God mentions Jacob and Esau, sons of Isaac. God’s feelings for these two brothers seem vastly different: “Jacob I have loved; but Esau I have hated.” (Mal 1:3)
The thing is, the ancient Hebrew view of hate – sa’ne – was not about hostility, but about a hurt or wound that resulted because love was involved. So, the next time someone thinks they found scripture saying God hated Esau, consider the context. Who has never experienced some form of hurt in their family? Everybody hurts. Oh my, was nudged to Google the lyrics and it makes sense why an old REM song came to mind. Let’s stay the course, shall we?
Two weeks ago, I shared “ezer” with our Bible study group. It derives from two words meaning “to rescue or save” and “to be strong”. It tied back directly to something I shared with them last Spring about Psalm 63:7 and Isa 63:7. Ezer means helper and boy, oh boy, what a fantastical helper the Holy Spirit is in my life! That said, only twice does God use “ezer” to describe a woman, both early in Genesis. To my knowledge, “ezer” never describes a man in The Bible.
I am open to being corrected. I am not a qualified instructor of Hebrew, nor am I a Bible scholar. I am a perpetual student seeking to learn everything I can about my Sovereign God, Yahweh! He already knows every little detail about me. I have so much more I want to learn about Him. Still, I am qualified to testify to how My Messiah works in my life through the Holy Spirit. In fact, I am commanded to bear witness. Every single other time I can find in my Bible, “ezer” expresses how God is helping his people, most often in battle. Beautiful four letter word!
Ebenezer is also in the Bible. NOT SCROOGE! For those curious, it means means “stone of support” in Hebrew. Eben = stone. The Stone of Ebenezer signifies to me that trusting in ANYTHING or ANYONE short of CHRIST JESUS will ultimately lead to failure. This goes for trusting the wrong teacher, pastor, church, friend or anything else. In every case, we must repent from misplaced trust and from leaving our Messiah out of the equation. He is ALWAYS FAITHFUL to forgive, grant mercy, and provide his guidance and protection. REPENTANCE is KEY.
Last week, I was nudged to study “ayin”. I will write about that another day, as this is getting quite long. AYIN is beyond beautiful, too. Today, I was nudged to search “yada in Bible”. “Yada” is a verb which means “to know” in Hebrew. This is the form used roughly 950 times in the Bible. That verb creates “da’at”, another form of the word KNOWLEDGE in The Bible. There are masculine, feminine and other various forms which are tied to SORCERY, as well.
Since I am not qualified to teach Hebrew in the least, I will close by encouraging you to study ANY WORD or verse in your Bible when something does not “sit right”. See SANE/HATE example above. Look at the Hebrew or Greek which applies. If your heart is to have a deeper relationship with Yeshua/Jesus, the best investment you can make is time reading and understanding scripture, inviting the Holy Spirit to help you interpret it. James 1:5 promises if you ask the LORD for wisdom, He WILL provide.
ALL GOOD KNOWLEDGE is from God. There is EVIL KNOWLEDGE, too. I can warn you that there are at least three places in scripture where knowledge is SORCERY. The masculine noun ידעני (yidde’oni), denoting a familiar spirit (Leviticus 19:31, 1 Samuel 28:3, Isaiah 8:19). This word is commonly translated with sorcerer or magician. Sometimes, what we have been taught is not only wrong, it could send you into a dark eternity. You are not disrespecting your teacher, pastor, priest or friend by standing firm that EVERY WORD given as spiritual truth can only be accepted as such if found in HIS WORD.
If something feels “off” in YOUR SPIRIT, there is a reason. We are individuals with separate relationships with our Messiah. If the Holy Spirit is telling YOU something, check it against HIS WORD. Maybe you are not meant for a lesson at a certain time. Maybe there is something bigger and more important the Lord is trying to work on with you. His timing is always superior. Pray, study, submit and seek The LORD with all your heart, soul and spirit. Nothing matters more than seeking the LORD and loving every person on your path.
I could never praise my LORD and SAVIOR enough. How is this for a cut and paste from Google:
The word yada can also refer to the deep relationship between God and humans. In John 17:3, Jesus says that eternal life depends on having a yada relationship with God and Jesus.
I am embracing what I see as Divine Humor on the “yada yada”. My Savior says eternal life depends on a Yada relationship with God PLUS a yada relationship with Jesus/Yeshua. Yada yada, hallelujah! 🤣🤣🤣
